Home Sewing Program

ABOUT

At HBI Textiles, our satellite approach to contract cut and sew manufacturing plays a large roll in our overall success. Our ultimate goal is to assist sewers with obtaining steady work that doesn’t interfere with starting or maintaining a positive family environment. Additionally, our satellite approach helps solve a number of road blocks: transportation, language barriers, and daycare— to name a few.

Our passion for this program is obvious, as we are the proud recipients of the SBA Home-Based Business Advocate of the Year award and the Family Celebration Award, presented by six of the largest non-profit agencies in the state of Minnesota for our work and commitment to families.

HOW DOES THE PROGRAM WORK?

HBI obtains work through our client base that translates into home sewing jobs and/or opportunities. Once HBI is awarded the work, we contact satellite sewers based on skill and experience. Depending on the size of the project, we may contact multiple sewers for a single project. Rates and expected deadlines will be provided up front so a proper decision to move forward can be made.

NOTE: All material provided to satellites will be pre-cut and ready to sew.

Upon agreement to move forward, the following steps will be administered:

1) TRAINING: For this step we ask home sewers to come in to our facility and participate in a training session that is specific to the opportunity. Contract sewers will spend time with our lead sewer and learn more on how the product is made, as well as requirements and expectations. We then ask that two samples are made. For these samples, HBI will provide all necessary materials. Sewers may take the samples home to complete. Or, if preferred, can use our equipment to complete the samples on-site at HBI. Once the samples are finished, a thorough inspection is done. If approved, sewers become certified for that specific product. If the samples are not approved, continued alterations will be required until expectations are met.

2) HANDOFF: Prior to handoff, HBI will perform all initial steps to get the product ready for sewing. This includes cutting fabric, necessary leatherwork, materials procurement, etc. Once a sewer is certified, HBI prepares a package of materials (and instructions) for pickup. HBI will also supply expectations in terms of timing.

3) DELIVERY: Delivery occurs when the required work has been completed and deadlines met. Sewers will complete a pre-inspection for quality prior to arrival (check list will be provided) and finished goods are bagged up and delivered back to HBI.

4) INSPECTION: Upon delivery, HBI will perform an initial inspection. This inspection is conducted and involves a % of goods delivered. Goods failing inspection must be corrected or re-done.

5) PAYMENT: Once all work for a specific project is finished, delivered and approved, HBI will cut a check for the work performed. Other factors may apply and can be identified in our Contract Sewing Agreement.

REQUIREMENTS

HBI requires all sewers to have experience sewing in an industrial setting. More importantly, sewers must have the appropriate industrial equipment to complete the necessary work. This equipment requirement will be addressed on a per project basis and expectations will be identified up front.

We care about our sewers as well as making sure a fair wage is provided for the work conducted. As you gain experience with HBI, the amount paid will increase.
